Backing Up Files and Workspaces.

Hello - Is there an easy way to backup the entire workspace? As has been mentioned in other threads, I'm sure that the data is being backed up by MSFT however, having a local backup can't hurt. Some of the files I'd like to keep here are quite important. Of course I have a backup copy now but am trying to see if there's an easy way to just backup everything,

Thanks,

Ajay

Re: Backing Up Files and Workspaces.

Ajay,

I agree with your concern regarding backup of files. I'm using the workspaces in Office Live Small Business as well as these new Office Live Workspaces. The former allow you to synchronise documents folders with Outlook, which provides a convenient backup and offline copy of the files whilst retaining the primary copy on the Office Live servers. The synchronisation takes place in the background so I don't need to worry about configuring beyond the initial set-up. I would be looking for this functionality when OLW moves out of Beta.

Re: Backing Up Files and Workspaces.

I'm presonally of the opinion that if it exists in the cloud then that is your backup. I don't see the need for a local backup. if you need to do such a thing then is backing of your O/S (i.e. standard Windows functionality) an option?

The real question is if Microsoft can go down. If they can't then you don't need backup. Can you guarantee that you won't go down Microsoft?

Re: Backing Up Files and Workspaces.

I have only began participating in these forums a couple weeks ago; and I have seen this question many times already so I asked someone in the team. In short: it is in the future plans, but not a simple thing as they are assuming this needs to be an all encompassing solution which means has to cover both "real documents" (i.e. Word or Excel files you upload) as well as items created in the Workspace itself (i.e. a list).

Thanks for the posts; they help understand your needs and priorities.

Re: Backing Up Files and Workspaces.

I have a different scenario for the need to back up files. I open a workspace whenever I need to work with a team on a given set of files. I would like that when the purpose of the team expires to be able to click on one button and have the entire content of the given workspace saved on my machine so that I can easily delete the workspace. If one was to keep workspaces open even after a project's life expired it would be a maze to navigate among the workspaces. I would really like to see implemented this feature. The way one can upload multiple files at once, I would like to download all of them at once, without having to click on each one of them individually and clicking on save as, navigating to the folder, etc.

 Please OLW, create this functionality!

Thank you,

Samer
