Text wrap in lists

I made a list, but when I typed text into a column it didn't wrap within the column width.  Is there a way to make text wrap?  I think it should wrap by default.

Re: Text wrap in lists

Helen,

I had just written a report on the same topic when I notice your comment.  So instead of sending it in separately, I am adding it here without alteration. The following is what I intended to post. To answer your question Helen; no, there is no way, of which I am aware, except in Event list that you can ‘wrap text.  I believe this is a bug, but know that if you have two people sharing a task list, although it does not show up in your list in the workspace, each party will have it in their linked Outlook list on their computer. We have done some testing with this using Outlook 2007 and Outlook Connector. The following is what I was going to post anyway:
“Still having a problem with lack of Text Wrap and writing about these issues with workspaces is time consuming.  It would be better to just call, but unfortunately those comments do not seem to be handled as quickly as when mentioned here in this workspace. Thanks to all who have already cleared up issues for us from here in this workspace.  The current and major problem for us on a daily basis is ‘Text Wrap’.  I have called and reported the issue again, escalating it with Ticket # 1058823997. The problem is with ‘wrap text ‘not being allowed in “tasks” or “list” as it does with “events”.  I cannot say all the problems this presents, not the least of these is that people cannot read them easily. It seems to be a bug because something created in events does allow us in one of the columns to read and write wrapped texts, while in edit mode.  This is so very important.  For more information please refer to   ticket # 1058823997 “Task List seems to have a problem”, and others that I might have reported on.  Please, reporting these issues is a diversion from work of 30 minute to an hour and many times longer when having to look up previous ticket numbers to verify that I am using the same terms the workspace uses.  Please handle these situations ASAP. Again, it takes a great deal of time to log all these issues one at a time and with 20 to 30 issues yet to report, I would like to just talk to someone. Another issue I asked to be escalated is the continuing issue with not being able to move or remove .html files. Some of these problems are debilitating to those of us trying to harness the fullness of this online document management and communications platform.”

We need to have at least one column that allows wrapped text in the creation of Lists, Task Lists, Contact Lists, just as it is allowed in Events.

Thank you,

Brian/Treebreeze

Re: Text wrap in lists

We support two types of text fields - one is a single line text, which doesn't wrap, the other is multiple lines of text, which wraps.

The standard list templates do not allow changing the type of the predefined columns, however you can create your own columns there. Click on add column, then click on the arrowhead icon in the column title. From there you can select the mutiple lines of text column type.

Re: Text wrap in lists

Oh wow, I had not noticed that before.  Is this new with the new version, or has it always been there?  So, still, what about the task list issue? It does not work with an added column to fix the issue of the task descriptions appearing. Why is this not standard? And how come no one contacted us back after several calls and the trouble ticket mentioned above? I must have called three or four times on this issue alone.

Re: Text wrap in lists

That works -- why isn't multi-line the default setting?  I see no need for a single-line option at all, since you can type as much (or as little) text as you want in a multi-line row.
