Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Tough one? You've got a bunch of users that would (I'm guessing) love to have this feature work as advertised. The only suggestions we've gotten are "load the updates",etc. When we say that it doesn't work, there's a deafening silence.

Even if we HAD clean machines, it wouldn't really mean much if we got the feature working. A "clean machine" (whatever that is) isn't a realistic testing platform. Part of a beta test is having users use the program in as realistic a manner as possible. Just ask Firefox and other MSFT competitors.

It's obvious that there's a lot of us having problems. Don't expect many votes from us on the "Webware  100" awards.

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work - Vote on Webware 100?

ckm1956,

I don't think I will get around to voting on Office Live for the Webware 100 awards.  Won't have time, still looking for a CLEAN Machine.

Something is going wrong here, during a beta test shouldn't there be a lot more questions going on about the problem from the developer?  Like why isn't this software working?  Or input to the beta testers that the problem is being worked on?

Think the developer just gave up?

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

The whole point of using an Office Live Workspace for me would be if

a, I could open, edit, and resave documents (any documents from the Office 2007 suite, including Excell, One Note and PowerPoint) without the need to download to local machine and then upload again. That would be excellent - but at present fails every time I try.

b, I could synchronise my online version with a local version on my primary machine using something similar to the way Groove works with MOSS (I have posted on the other thread about this, but no progress there either)

If I cannot open, edit and resave, which currently I have not been able to despite having installed the office add in on all the machines I currently use (4 different machines, two on Vista and two on XP) then Office Live Workspace offers me nothing over and above SkyDrive so far as I can see.

Sure there are links, activity panes, previews and other rich features - but thats all gloss if the basic operation does not work

All this mention about clean machines, clearing credentials, changing settings, applying updates  is nonsense. The whole point of an online resource is the ability to access it from anywhere, on any machine, as I can files on SkyDrive.  I am lucky that the 4 machines I regularly use allow me some control, but what about using machines in Libraries, Internet Cafes, hotels or companies I visit - is it realistic to expect to ask to see their IT support guys and get them to clean and upgrade their machines so I can edit a presentation I`m about to give? Get real.

Please let me know when this is fixed and works as expected  - at present keeping an 8GB usb drive (backed up of course) in my case seems more effective which is a shame.

Best wishes

CC

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

It worked for me when I enabled the Webclient service in Computer Management. Using Vista Home Premium and Office 2007 Enterprise.

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Thanks, Dumboi!!! I enabled WebClient and it worked for me in both Excel & Word.

If the MSFT people had really tried to get us to troubleshoot (isin't that the purpose of a beta?), then this should've been one of the first things checked.

Thanks,

Keeter.

Have you tried installing the specific update for Vista?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F8BC14E7-84CD-41B6-AA3A-5FE8985C78FB&displaylang=en

dambha:

Please, give detailed information how to set "webclient".

Thanks

Assuming you are using Vista, right-click on "My Computer", select "Manage". Then expand "Services and Applications" on the left column, select "Services". On the middle column, scroll down till you find "Webclient". Double-click on it, make sure it is set to "Automatic" and click "Start" if it's not started already.

Note that Webclient should start automatically in a default Vista installation (according to http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/Services/WebClient.htm). I'm not sure what else would help besides installing the Vista specific update if it still doesn't work. Oh, if you have a firewall running, do allow Microsoft Word to access the Internet.

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Dambha,

To check to see if WebClient is running or set it to run, please do the following steps:

Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services - The scroll down and look for WebClient - Check to see if Status is Started, if not start it.

Thanks,

Keeter

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work - Been there - done that!

Hello folks,I am excited to inform you that we have released a new Office Live Update 1.1, specifically geared towards solving some of the authentication issues you are all running into. The Update is now available here and also within Office Live Workspace:

 http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98870.

In our investigation, we found that Vista and Office 2007 had different authentication behaviors that were causing these issues and we have tried to address them. All you have to do is install the Update and it will install the necessary updates and the new Add-in. Please let us know if this works out better for you and again, thanks for your patience! Your feedback has been invaluable in driving us to make this better and figuring out the solution.

 Kavitha

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work - Been there - Update was a Nasty Deal, UGH!!

Keeter,

From the 4 last line on this log, its apparent that the Office 2007 update failed with an invalid baseline code. Two things to try:

1) Unininstall the Visual Studio 2008 Web Authoring component and try the install. We are working on a more permanant fix here.

2) Check the version of Office 2007 you have installed is either RTM or SP1.

This same issue has been discussed on this thread here in much more detail:

Again, thanks for giving us a try and being patient!

Kavitha
