Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Are you seeing a prompt asking for your password, and are you trying to save to your own workspace or a shared workspace? Can you describe the exact step-by-step behavior in some more detail?

Are you able to save to the workspace by clicking on the Save button from Excel if you open the Excel file from the browser using the "Edit" button?

Yes I am getting a prompt.

The prompt / logon box is a .NET Passport one.  Deleting the NET Passport password entries in User Accounts does not modify this.

I am trying to save to my own unshared workspace.

I put the password in for my Live ID

There is a significant delay and then the prompt box reappears with a blank password field.

Retrying repeats the same behaviour ad nauseam.

The "Save to" box in Office shows the Windows ID as unlogged,

Editing an Office document from within the browser loads the Office program but not the document ... same problem ... a pssword prompt (.NET Passport) that won't accept the Live ID password.

Logically I wouldn't expect a .NET Passport box for a Windows Live ID log on but this kind of box presents every time (see comment above about deleting the password references for .NET Passport in User Accounts).

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Thanks for the detailed steps Fr Gregory! If the document does not open even when you click on Edit from the browser, then the problem is more basic than some of the variations that others are reporting in this thread. Can you confirm that you are using the same Windows Live ID to open the document in the Office program that you used to Sign In to the workspace in the browser?

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Kavitha,

Vista will not allow me to save or open from the office products either.  I have make sure that the Vista update is applied and items that you listed are done.  The save and open show the main office live folders, then shows the local folder.

Should have all the current updates done on this system.  Vista Business

Thanks,

Keith

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Good results from your post of 3-4-08.  Cleared all the .net items and re-downloaded the update (this one is dated 3-6-08).

Note - Getting to the credentials is a little different in Home Premium.

Playing with two live ids and workspaces works well; changing back and forth stomps on ids in the Office save as but does not lock up any more.  The error messages include some erroneous instructions to exit Vista.

Thanks for the post.

Bob

I don't understand .... nobody posted anything on the 4th March.  Many of us are working with the latest update and still not getting anywhere.  Meanwhile back at support I am still being pedalled stuff about clearing the cache and disabling firewalls.  Oh dear, everyone's still in denial.

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

You got to love MSFT. Lots of hype about the ability of saving from Office to an online workspace. Most people on here can't get it to work. The suggestions from support have done little to nothing.

Problem, what problem? Our products are thoroughly tested. Right....

Maybe it'll work after they issue a service pack for this mess. Right....

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Does Not Work

Hi,

Have tried all the items suggested and still not getting any where with being able to open or save a doucument with Word or Excel?  I see the folders, but as soon as I click on one of the folders the program just jumps to the normal local save or open form.  Have uninstalled - installed , deleted logins, and talked bad to the system, but still nothing has corrected the problem.

Thanks,

Keith

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Not everyone has problems, dude. I got it working flawlessly on both a Vista machine running Office 2007 and an XP SP2 machine running Office 2003.  Stop complaining about the qualify of a BETA product. You've been told many times that the purpose of this beta is to identify bugs so that they can be fixed. And when they are, the beta will end. (Unlike Google, MS actually does complete beta testing.)

Things that can cause problems with OLW:

  • Firewall
  • Router / NAT configuration
  • Internet Connection
If you're behind a business firewall, you may have to contact your IT department. If you've got a personal router, NAT may cause problems. I don't know why or how it would (for me, NAT simply reduces the connection speed, so OLW takes longer to list/transfer documents). Lastly, running many programs that use the internet, having a crappy internet connection, or an overzealous ISP can all interfere with OLW (by causing timeouts or dropped packages).

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

I think it was just fixed as it did not work for me either last week. I just tried it in excel (2003) & it works fine. Before I deleted the document & uploaded the changed document. Then I found that I could open the document in office live & click on the version button & upload as long as the revised document in excel was open too. It is sort of fun figuring this stuff out. Now if I could just figure out how to add the smile in options to this post.

Thank you very much!  I was having the same problems with Vista/Office 2007 and the above update fixed the problem.

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

Hello, I am having an issue opening and savings documents through MS Office 2007 running on Vista Ultimate.  It seems to be the same as the problem described by keeter.  When I navigate to open or save from Office Live, I am presented with the correct workspaces (which were obviously "retrieved" from my Office Live Workspaces site), yet when I select the workspace, I am presented with a Windows Open Dialog which points to the "Documents" folder on my machine.  I can't see my Office Live workspace anywhere in the folder list.  It works the same whether I am opening or saving a document through MS Office.  I CAN open documents from the web (IE), which launches the right Office application, make changes, and hit the regular "save" button and the changes are reflected (as if I used web folders) on Office Live.

I installed the updates above and I cleared my passwords as described.  None of this helped.  Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this issue?  Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Open from/Save to Office Live Don't Work

I think a lot of us are hanging around for an answer to that one Robert.  Technical Support are doing their usual thing of denying that there is a problem by suggesting all sorts of work rounds that don't work.  With me, when they had exhausted the manual, they simply dumped me on to MS regular support for Vista.  Hopeless.  If Google can get it right why can't MS?
