Office Live add-in toolbar

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP SP2 with Office XP on one computer and Office 2003 on another computer. The add-in toolbar insists on creating it's own toolbar line at the top of the Office applications. For example, while using Excel or Work I can move the add-in so that it sits in line with the reviewing toolbar, but when I restart those applications the Office Live add-in moves back to a separate toolbar line below the reviewing toolbar.

Thanks,

Andrew

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

I would also like instructions to turn off this toolbar and have that preference reflected when I open the application again.

I don't need the functionality all the time, (and certainly not in my Outlook application!) and would prefer to have the toolbar honor my preference to be off by default.

Why does this toolbar act differently than the others?

Do I need to uninstall it to make this happen?

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

Is anyone going to answer these contributors' questions?

I have the same problem:  the Office add-in toolbar doesn't remember its position or other changes, and always appears on a separate line.  Combine this with the "SharedView" toolbar which can't be customised at all and you have a very annoying waste of space and time clearing it up at the begining of each instance of any office programme.

Microsoft seem intent on using up all the territory at the top of my screen.  I'd like some room to work, please?

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

first off all the toolbar jumps around alot sometimes it is in top sometimes it is where i left it last time somtime it is in de bottum en anthor times i have to add the toolbar again.

the bar is anoying the hell out of me, i should stay where i want it to.

not on is own line behind another bar and should be there every time !

consurning outlook, for a new message and adding in file from the workspace that is nice, however for the rest the toolbar is useless in this application.

i hope they fix this things

don't mind the misspelling of my name :P

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

I ahve exactly the same problem. Even dissabling the toolbar it reappears the next time I start the application.

Anyone had any luck in squashing this bug yet?

 Andrew.

I am so glad I am not the only one having this problem. Can someone please let us know how to correct this issue?

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

Hi,

The Office Live toolbar is installed as part of the Add-in and we currently don't have a way of  persisting the toolbar location (if it is changed).  This is the reason the toolbar goes back to the last line when you restart the application.

If you dont want the toolbar, please uninstall the Add-in itself by going to the Control Panel and removing the "Office Live Workspace Add-in beta" from the Programs list. This will remove the toolbar from the list and to get it back, you can easily just install the Add-in from Office Live Workspace.

Hopefully, this helps,

Kavitha

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

Kavitha,

I don't think that people want to lose the functionality - for example the ability to access Live documents in an ordinary "File/Open" dialogue - so suggesting we all ditch the add-in is not a very productive suggestion.

This Office Live Beta has a long way to go before it can be used seriously.

 Thanks at least for replying,

Sothis

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

Hi Kavitha,

I for one am much happier without any of the Office Live functionality than I was with that stoopid non-standard toolbar taking up so much of my tiny laptop screen (1024x768, Office 2003, WinXP Pro), so I am very grateful for your advice.  I had already tried to remove the toolbar via the Add/Remove Software control panel, but without knowing the correct name "Office Live Add-in Beta" I wasn't finding it among the other "Windows Live" apps and just gave up.

    Cheers,  David.

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

Hi folks,

I wanted to let you know that we heard your feedback and in the latest Office Live Update 1.2, we fixed the issue with the Add-in toolbar not being sticky. The Add-in will now remember its location and will not revert to the default when you restart Office.

Download the new Office Live Update 1.2: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=124992

Again, thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback as it helps us make a better product,

Kavitha

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

 Kavitha,

Thanks for that. I have downloaded 1.2 but it is failing. I suspect that it is because I uninstalled the Office Live Workspace Add-in because of the jumping toolbar. I have searched many places and have been unable to find a place to re-download the Add-in.  I have gone to My Workspace and clicked on :Install Live Add-in" but that just points me to the 1,2 update, which I already have.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

The Add-in is now bundled as part of the Office Live Update 1.,2, which also installs the necessary patches you need esp. if you have Vista and Office 2007 so thats all you need.

Sorry to hear that the Office Live Update is failing to install for you. Which KB is not getting installed?  Some of the forums already address these issues which are sometimes caused by the machine configuration.

Troubleshooting tip: If you have Visual Studio 2008, we have seen this install failing. In the list of currently installed programs, select Microsoft Visual Web Authoring Component , and then click Uninstall or Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.

Let me know if this helps,

Kavitha

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

It never gets to installing KBs. It goes from "Preparing to Install" to "The installation package could not be opened. Verify the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor that this is a valid indows installer package"

Before I was running firefox, and was downloading the setup file and it was failing. I tried IE and selected "Run" and get the same error. Gonna reboot and try a few other things, but any help would be appreciated.

Running Windows XP Pro, SP2 and Office 2003 SP3.

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

This problem may occur if the locally cached Windows Installer package (.msi) file is damaged or corrupted. Let's try doing several steps:

1. Go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel and search for "Microsoft Office Live Add-in beta". If it exists, click remove button next to it and let installer remove Add-in from your machine.

2. To make sure, that you don't have any corrupted installer files on your machine clean your temp folder (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp). You can safely remove all its content.

3. Try installing add-in once again. Go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98870, click download and follow the instructions.

4. If you are still seeing an error, you can try updating Windows Installer, by going to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&DisplayLang=en

Please let us know if this helps you

Re: Office Live add-in toolbar

Thanks for the help. I think we are headed in the right direction.

1. I had removed the add in long time ago, was not in add/remove.

2. Cleaned out the Temp folder. Some things were quite old

3. Downloaded again and ran. Received a different error: An error occurred trying to download 'http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/4/60417a20-8507-4910-b161-4037c5dbccc4/OLConnector.msi'."

I did move the error file out of the temp directory to preserver the log, and tried again after a couple of minutes. Same error.

4. Ran the Installer, same erre as #3. Gonna reboot just for fun but doubt it will fix the issue.
