Joseph, I believe this has been the behavior for the communities site since I've been using the site in early 2008; when I click sign in on a page of posts, I am brought to the homepage instead of back to the page I was on when I clicked sign in. A better behavior would be to be brought back to that page after logging in instead of the homepage. We'll take your feedback as we update the communities site down the road.
