Some ideas how to improve usability for OL

Workspace

  • Sort Worspaces by name
  • The "activity side bar" shows us some useful and interesting information. Thats OK! But often users to not need to see it. Why is this side bar always displayed. I have to click "Close" link again and again and again. To put this in other words: The "Activity Side Bar" shouldn't be visible by default.
  • Remember sorting of files (e.g. sort by name)

Task List

  • Always show header (for longer lists this will be useful)
  • Sorting: If adding a new row the new row should be placed to the correct position after entering necessary data (e.g. sorting descending by date column sorting should be refreshed after entering a date)
  • ToDo lists: If completed the row should be displayed with an alternative color (like Outlook does)
  • Todo lists: Filter tasks (e.g. only display not started tasks)

Contacts

  • I know this has been unmentioned already in this form. Provide a "global unique" contact list which can be synchronized with mobile devices  (PDA, Smartphone), Live Mail, Exchange, Outlook, etc. Also provide a filter feature to tell the "Global Unique Contact List" to synchronize only "work contacts" with Exchange for example. It is really a mess that users have to manually keep their contacts in sync (I own a Pocket PC, a Smartphone, a Live Mail account etc. and I have to keep my contacts in sync manually. I already tried "Live Mobile" and synced my Hotmail contacts with Exchange. But now I have double entries etc. and it does not work perfect at the moment.

Mobility

  • Provide an PDA optimized version of OL. (like Google Docs ;-)). If it will be possible to edit Word documents, ToDo lists etc. from a mobile device (Pocket PC, Smartphone) this will be really fantastic!
To be continued...
Programming is a kind of art but not all programmers are artists.

hrfmobile, thanks for your detailed feedback. We value customer input a lot and your feedback is very helpful. We try our best to incorporate feedback from the wide-range of sources it comes from into our planning processes so we know what features and functionality our users want. We'll use your feedback for just that. Thanks for using Office Live Workspace!
