edit buttons have disappeared

I signed up for Office Live Workspace a few days ago. I have a Windows machine running Vista Home Premium  At first I could not find the edit button but realized that Firefox was probably the problem.  Opened IE 7 and voila there were the buttons.  But despite the fact that the version of office I have installed  is XP Professional it kept opening the docs in Office 2007 which I assume came as a "free trial" on the machine.  I got tired of being asked for a product key code (which I don't have) and having to go through all those steps so I finally deleted the 2007 version from my machine.  I still have the XP installed.  But now my edit buttons are gone.  I have tried running XP updates to no avail.  On a seperate laptop which has Office 2003 installed the buttons appear and work just fine.  Any hints about how to get those buttons back???

thanks for your help

Re: edit buttons have disappeared

Hi HSB,

It appears that Office 2007 uninstalled the ActiveX control that we use to detect which version of Office is installed.

You will need to go into Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and select Office XP.  If you get a Repair option, select it and it should reinstall the control.  You can also manually select "Change" and verify that the Sharepoint Services component is present as part of the install.

Good luck and let us know if this solves your issue.
