Pre-registration update #2

We invited the first group of beta users into the service in December, and since then it has been exciting to invite increasingly larger batches of US pre-registrants into the service every few weeks. We’re working hard to get through the pre-registration list as quickly as possible.  Recent US pre-registrants should receive an e-mail invitation by the end of this week (1/20) and, going forward, new US pre-registrants can expect to wait about 2 weeks for their invites.

In the meanwhile, we’ve been getting lots of great feedback and have been fine-tuning the service in our continuous efforts to deliver a great user experience.  Later this year, we plan to start rolling the service out into other localized languages, so stay tuned for more news on this in the coming months.

Thanks!

Evan

I'll be glad to help in any way I can ... once I get to start "playing" in the sandbox, so to speak!

Looking forward to it!

When I sign into workspace.officelive.com then I get redirected to home.officelive.com which is sort of Small Business portal. I don't see in there anyway to upload docs, ppt, etc.

I have already completed registration and not sure if I am missing something. Could you direct where I can get my issue resolved?

Thanks

Hi

I received the following email from OfficeLive Workspace team. When should I expect the email invitation?

Thanks.

Email from OfficeLive:

Thanks for pre-registering for Microsoft Office Live Workspace beta. We're excited that you'll be one of the first to try the service.

You will receive an e-mail invitation as soon as your workspace is ready. In the meanwhile, check out our blog for updates.

Thanks for your interest in Office Live Workspace.

Best regards,

The Microsoft Office Live Workspace team

OLW is a great concept. Couple of minor suggestions:

1. Above all, make it as easy as possible to use.

2. Allow OLW to be mapped as a network drive

3. At least have a search capability

4. Allow intelligent synchronization , scheduling and multiple files upload and download.

5.Increase space if possible or be able to buy it

6. Have a uniform interface that is intuitive without making too complicated and different.

I pre-registered in December, however being based in the UK means that I can't access OLW yet.

Can you give an indication of which quarter in 2008 you expect to extend the English service outside the US?

I pre-registered months ago and still have not heard. I have a major collaboration project that I would like to try to carry out on Office Live Workspace - it sounds like it will be much better than using emails and having 15 versions floating around the office.

I'm in after only a few day delay from registering.  I couldn't connect the first few times that I tried but it worked this evening!  It looks pretty good so far.

It has been months since I registered. Is there a support team that covers registration issues?

I appreciate the information about when to expect access. I am from the US and also signed up a few months ago, but I have not received any invitation yet.  Any thoughts on why a few of us who signed up months ago still have not received an invitation if recent pre-registrants are now receiving invitations in 1 to 2 weeks?

This is really disheartening--another unpleasant, annoying  buggy Microsoft user experience. I don't know why I keep getting my hopes up.

Thanks for your inquiries about pre-registration -- and thanks very much for your patience.

We plan to start inviting non-US pre-registrants -- and US pre-registrants still waiting -- into the service in the coming weeks, so it won’t be too much longer before you can get your workspace.  We're working hard to fine-tune Office Live Workspace so you can have a great user experience.

There is definite issue with the sign up process and how sites are being handed out from my perspective.  I signed up a few months ago when the pre-registration list was first made available.  Still nothing as of today.  On an off chance to test process and see if new people signing up are getting their sites sooner, I asked my wife to sign up with her hotmail address last week.  Today she got an email that her Live Workspace is ready.  What is the deal?  Is it not first come (sign up) first serve (get access to your site)?

Well... For me its Mobile Activesync. I am a student and dont yet have access to Microsoft Exchange. My university does have Outlook Web Access but that does not support Activesync for mobile devices (At least I tried a number of times) But I am on the run most of the time and only thing I have with me is my Windows mobile powered phone. So I need something that can keep the info I update, synchronized (and backed up) to some secure site and for easy access later on. For my desktop I have secure online backup client installed... I am not worried about that... what I am worried about is if my phone breaks while I am away or if it gets stolen... then how will I recover the new information that I entered on the go! I try to sync it with my notebook... but thats not always an option for weeks at a stretch.

More than that the concept that Microsoft exchange is for business customers only is obsolete one. Today in the world of connectivity, everybody deserves these services for free just like email was couple of years ago. You guys can always increase space later on... but I think we deserve at least 500mb to 1gb of space for free with Sync capabilities to Desktops and Mobile devices. At least that will prevent me switching to Google Calendar and Google Notebook... which I am using now as an alternative and starting to like it more and more (especially the super intuitive quick add function in google calendar)

Hurry up microsoft! You might be too late before Google drops its bombshell of a super efficient mobile device with such capabilities.

Anyway... Still you guys are doing a great job! Keep up with the good work. I am still waiting for the invitation!

Still no workspace. I want to use this product because I love Microsoft Office. On the other hand, I usually avoid using my Passport or Live (or whatever my hotmail account is called nowadays) because it's buggy and I still get lots of spam. Right now you are at risk of alienating folks like me who regularly use Office from the desktop. I am really trying to think of this workspace as an extension of Office (which I love), but this experience (not having a workspace after 3 months) only affirms my dislike for Live/Passport/Hotmail. You are tainting Office's reputation. Please get this fixed. As soon as spreadsheets can easily be used in a JAVA/C/XML environment (which we're 95% there), I am done with Office.
